Sterling Christian School

History of Sterling Christian School

Sterling Christian School has been providing quality Christian education to the greater Sterling area since 1978. For the first 13 years of its existence, SCS was known as the Twin Cities Nazarene School and was housed in, supported by, and nurtured by the First Church of the Nazarene of Sterling. In 1990 it became apparent that for the school to succeed and grow it needed a wider financial base and larger facilities. A new interdenominational Christian School Association was formed which commenced a search for a new, independent campus site for the school. A new campus was acquired in Galt, Illinois, and the school was relocated to its present site in August, 1991. The school was also renamed Sterling Christian School to more accurately reflect the diversity found in its student body which represents over 25 Protestant churches throughout the greater Sterling area.

Independent Status

Sterling Christian School is not connected to any specific denomination. During any given school year, the members of SCS's Board of Directors represent a broad spectrum of churches, such as The Assemblies of God, Baptist, Christian Reformed, Church of God, Community, Evangelical Free, United Methodist, Open Bible, Nazarene, Reformed, etc. Members of SCS's staff also attend various conservative evangelical churches. During a typical school year, the student body is composed of families representing some 25 to 30 local churches.

Sterling Christian School Association

The purpose of the Association shall be to promote Christian education and to maintain a school or schools to provide Bible-centered instruction designed to impart a knowledge of God and of His universe and to train students to cope with life in this world in such a manner as to glorify God and our Lord Jesus Christ. The Association consists of members eighteen years of age or older who are in agreement with SCS's purpose, philosophy, and statement of faith set forth in the SCS Association Constitution.
